Beaches & seafront

See the areas
  • Haeundae Beach Busan's headline beach: a long crescent of sand backed by cafes and towers, free and busy from morning to late night.
  • Gwangalli Beach A beach facing the Gwangan Bridge, whose lights come on every evening. Watching them from the sand costs nothing.
  • Dadaepo Beach A wide, shallow sunset beach at the mouth of the Nakdong River, with a free fountain show on summer evenings.

Coastal walks

See the sights
  • Huinnyeoul Culture Village A cliffside path of white-walled houses over the sea on Yeongdo island. Free to walk end to end.
  • Taejongdae A forested cape ringed by sea cliffs and a lighthouse. The grounds and trails are free; only the Danubi loop train charges.

  • Gamcheon Culture Village A pastel maze of stair-alleys, murals and small studios on a hillside, built up by wartime refugees. Free to wander; a few photo props and studios charge.

Markets to browse

Where to eat
  • Jagalchi Market Korea's largest fish market. Walking the aisles and taking in the scene is free; buying and eating is where you spend.
  • Nampo-dong & BIFF Square The old downtown of street food, cinema history and shopping lanes. Free to stroll, snack money optional.

Temples

See the sights
  • Beomeosa A mountain temple on the slopes of Geumjeongsan, north of the city. Free entry to the grounds; go early for the quiet.
  • Haedong Yonggungsa A rare seaside temple perched on the rocks above the water on the east coast. Free entry.
