Daebangjin Gulhang Harbor is an artificial port of 2,099m² (635 pyeong) located on the coast outside Daebang-dong in Sacheon. It was one of the military harbor facilities established to defend against Japanese pirates who frequently invaded the southern coast during the late Goryeo period, and is said to have been used as a naval base by Admiral Yi Sun-sin during the Imjin War. The current gulhang was constructed by the Jinju Byeongma Jeoldosa during the Joseon Sunjo period, who mobilized the people of 73 myeon under Jinju-mok to build stone embankments, and was completed around 1820. It served as a base for military communications with the Jeokryangcheomsa of Namhaechangseon-do, and it is said that approximately 300 naval soldiers and 2 warships were stationed there at that time.
