Namhae German Village is a unique themed village formed after miners and nurses who were dispatched to Germany during the 1960s and 70s returned home and settled in the area. It was established to commemorate the lives and culture of the Gastarbeiter workers and to support their settlement, and German-style houses lined along the hillside create an exotic landscape as though one has arrived in Europe. Some of the village houses, which are characterised by red-tiled roofs and colourfully painted exterior walls, operate as accommodation facilities for travellers, offering the opportunity to experience local dwellings. Additionally, cafés and restaurants within the village serve German sausages and beer, making it more than sufficient to savour the atmosphere of a small Germany within Korea through all five senses.
