Namsa Yedam Village

Namsa Yedam Village is an old town where the spirit of scholars lingers, with tiled traditional Korean houses nestled quietly along earthen stone-wall lanes. A scholar tree, the symbol of scholars, brightens the alleyways, and in this village where a 700-year-old plum tree and a 600-year-old persimmon tree blossom and bear fruit, one feels a sense of home. Namsa Yedam Village is encircled by Nigu Mountain, and the Sasu Stream winds around and embraces the village. The village created by mountain and water takes the shape of a half moon. Therefore, from old times an open space has been left in the centre of the village so that the village's fortune, having become a full moon, would not wane again. Hidden throughout the village are many stories, including Sayangjeongsa, built by descendants of Jeong Mongju, a loyal subject of Goryeo; Yeongmojae, which enshrines the Ijegaeguksincheogeo, a national founding merit certificate passed down to Yi Je, who was both the son-in-law of King Taejo Yi Seong-gye and a founding merit subject; and Sahyojae, erected to honour the filial piety of the filial son Yi Yun-hyeon, who blocked the bandits' blades with his own body to protect his father. Namsa Yedam Village, the village where Yun Cho-won and Ha Do-yun from the drama "Let's Go Out on a Field Trip Together" walked, is a representative traditional Korean house village of Gyeongsangdo, a place where one can see the affectionate landscape of traditional dwellings visible over low fences.
