Unsusa Temple

Unsusa is a temple located on Baekyang Mountain in Sasang-gu, Busan, and is presumed to have been built during the Gaya Kingdom period. It was originally called Shinsuam but is said to have been renamed Unsusa before the eighteenth century. The temple buildings were completely destroyed during the Japanese invasions of Korea, and the present Daeungjeon was restored in 1660. Currently, Unsusa is arranged with Samseonggak and Yongwanggak shrines on either side of the Daeungjeon at its centre, and additionally houses Simgemdang and Sejindang. Unsusa preserves cultural relics including the Daeungjeon designated as a treasure, the stone Triad of Buddhas in seated position in the Daeungjeon designated as a tangible cultural property, and the Amita Triad painting designated as cultural heritage material. The temple operates a templestay programme where visitors can experience Buddhist pilgrimage sites and historic remains as well as tea roasting, and runs a Buddhist university that teaches the Buddha's teachings to lay believers and the general public.
